The Lady of Wildfell Hall is the second and last novel by Anne Brontë, and one of the first works of fiction in a feminist vein. Gilbert Markham writes in a letter to a friend how a mysterious stranger and her son have settled in the abandoned Wildfell Hall near his estate. He gradually becomes close to Mrs. Graham, and when he can no longer contain his feelings and secrets, the woman lets Gilbert read her diary. He sheds light on the past of the lady of Wildfell Hall.
