Oleksa Storozhenko is primarily known for his funny stories about devils and "unfortunate women", but he cherished true love for the historical past. While traveling on official business, the writer liked to find an old-timer and ask him about the old times, which often resulted in unique stories. Storozhenko's prose is imbued with the Cossack spirit and longing for an irretrievably lost past. Along with humorous sketches, the writer captures on paper the lost days of glory of the Zaporozhians and Haydamaks, collects folk legends and anecdotes, records folklore. In addition, Storozhenko aimed to create a "Ukrainian Faust" in the image of the legendary Mark Pekelny, traveling on the border between this world and the next. If it were not for the premature death of the author, who knows whether this work would have stood next to the Aeneid and the Black Council. Following the example of the writer, we too can dive into the past, preserved only on the pages of books, and revive it, as Oleksa Storozhenko did, creating "Memories of Nikita Leontiyovych Korzh", "Dorosha", "Mark the Damned" and other unique works.
