Stories told by mysterious elders around ancient fires offered both explanation and reassurance. Life hasn’t changed much; our addiction to explanations and reassurance still underlies our ambitions and our constant yearnings. Most of the basic assumptions of our early years were so deeply ingrained that we never voiced them, and therefore never had a chance to assess their relevance to us now. What if they are outdated? Immature? Not essential?

In his new book, Mythologemes: Embodying the Invisible World, James Hollis shows us how to bring these stories to mind—what questions to ask and when. And what we should expect of ourselves in the process. James Hollis is a licensed Jungian analyst in private practice in Washington, D.C. He served for many years as Executive Director of the Jung Education Center in Houston, Texas, was Executive Director of the Jung Society of Washington until 2019, and is currently on the Board of Directors of JSW. James Hollis was the first Director of Training at the Philadelphia Jung Institute and is Vice President Emeritus of the Philemon Foundation. He also serves as Senior Analyst for the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts.
