Mileva Einstein: The Theory of Longing

Slavenka Drakulic dedicated her novel Mileva Einstein: The Theory of Longing to the physicist genius Albert Einstein and his first wife. Mileva Einstein, née Maric, who came from a wealthy Serbian family, appears to the reader as a person full of life and love, but also depression and melancholy.

She was the only woman to study physics and mathematics at the Polytechnic Faculty of the University of Zurich, and thanks to her extraordinary abilities she could reach the highest scientific heights, but in the end she became the embodiment of the role of women in the society of her time.

Mileva's theory of longing is as complex as the theory of relativity. From her early youth until her death, she courageously bore the burden of longing, to which time constantly added pain: ridicule because of a physical disability, a failed marriage, the death of a child, the illness of her sister, unfulfilled dreams of a university education, a difficult financial situation, and a serious illness of her son-a fate that will not leave any reader indifferent.
