"I believe you will survive,
But won't come back,
They don't come back from the war"
Svitlana Povalyaeva's new book of poems is a complex combination of sketches from life at the rear and the front. War, love, constant waiting, hope, loss. Steppes and trenches, the deceptive comfort of home, and the whistling of rockets overhead, defenders and enemies. Own and others. A macabre story that we live every day. A time that was not chosen. Land for which they are ready to hold on until death. Jaw-dropping losses. "War is not a victory, but life as it is."
"Changing Cloudiness with Clearings" is dedicated to Svitlana's youngest son, Roman Ratushny. He took part in the battles for Kyiv and in the de-occupation of the Kyiv region, liberated Trostianets, and fought in Sumy Oblast. Died in the battle near Izium on June 8, 2022.
"I will love you until the end, my dear, may all my poems belong to you, may people remember you also in this way when they open this book," Svitlana Povalyaeva.
