The second book in the Divine Cities trilogy by the author of The Poisoned Chalice, Robert Jackson Bennett!
If in The City of Stairs the story of diplomat Shara Komaid is presented through the prism of friendship and tolerance, then The City of Blades is a dramatic fantasy about military duty, sacrifice and civilization.
Five years have passed since the Battle of Bulykiv. Shara Komaid became the Prime Minister of Saipur and made every effort to establish life on the Continent. At the same time, the main character of the second novel, Tur'in Mulaesh, managed to achieve the rank of general, and then unexpectedly resign from her position as vice president of the Saipur Military Council. Haunted by a sense of guilt over senseless murders during the war, she retreats to a remote island, where she drowns her memories in alcohol.
However, Shara Komaid finds her there too. As in the first book, the plot is heavily reliant on detective intrigue. Mulaesh is tasked with investigating where Shara’s agent has disappeared to.
It is there, in the Saipur military fort, headed by Lalit Biswal, Mulaesh’s former commander, that she will once again face old horrors. And the agent’s disappearance will quickly spiral into a mysterious web of ritual murders, the search for a mysterious metal, the theft of a military base, and a conflict that will bring the entire world to the brink of apocalypse.
