City

In 2017, the first edition of Valerian Pidmohylny’s novel “City” with illustrations by Maksym Pavliuk was published in “Osnovy”. This edition contributed to the fact that Ukrainian literary modernism became fashionable and encouraged a wide audience to read Ukrainian novels.

Maksym Pavliuk created the illustrations for the novel during his first year of life in Kyiv, living in a new city with Stepan Radchenko. The optics of a street artist, personal experiences, dreams, and urban experience became the key to the visual style of the novel, for which you have come to love our publication so much.

We have retained the open-backed design, because it allows you to better view the illustrations on the covers and makes the book stronger.
