Not all foreign writers important to the author are presented in this book, but all of them (except one) are important to him. The author does not know how to define the genre of the texts collected here, but suspects that they are neither literary articles, nor literary-critical essays, nor biographical sketches, nor - even less - reviews. But the author knows what target audience he is counting on: this collection may be useful to those who have already learned to read, but are still learning to understand what they read. The author does not guarantee that representatives of other age, social and professional groups will enjoy or benefit from it.
