The first part of Beckett's famous informal trilogy, "Molloy" is a black existential comedy, a parody of the journey as a way of finding oneself. Molloy begins his journey to find his mother, but becomes entangled in himself and entangled in many obstacles. Detective Moran, who is assigned to find and punish Molloy, eventually becomes more and more like him. In Beckett's absurd world, the journey loses its meaning, and the characters lose their own identity.
