“Language Lattices” is the third bilingual poetry book by Paul Celan, published in 1959 by the publishing house “S. Fischer Verlag”. It contains poems that appeared from the beginning of 1955 to the end of 1958 and mark a radical change in Celan’s poetics: a transition to the so-called “grayer” language. The 33 poems in the collection have absorbed important biographical, political and aesthetic events and phenomena and outline a reality that needs to be “found and conquered”. In a poetological sense, they are distinguished by their clearly expressed innovative character. Like the two previous books “Poppies and Memory” and “From Threshold to Threshold”, which were published in Ukrainian and German, “Language Lattices” continues the series “The Meridian of the Heart. Library of German-Language Literature”
