Description

Where to look for Western Ukraine? Today, seven western regions are traditionally understood under it. It wasn't always like that, of course. The contours of this territory were constantly changing - certain lands joined and fell away, the religious and linguistic landscape changed, desperate people made considerable fortunes, and dictators and epidemics reaped a bloody harvest.

Merchants' fleets and kings' armadas crossed here, ideas flocked here, they searched for oil and gold here, they fled across the oceans from here in search of a better fate and moved here for the sake of it. Here, glorious families declined and gray and poor ones rose. The rulers wept when they received these lands and sacrificed everything to get them. The history of this part of our country is a bright mosaic that was repeatedly broken into pieces and then glued together again.

This book is an attempt to learn the history of the western regions of Ukraine from the time of the Habsburgs to the occupation of the USSR.

Ivan Khomeniuk is a popularizer of history, founder of the "Prank of Eastern European Clio" community, researcher, and author of books on the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Eastern European history.
