The book "Mykhailo Charnyshenko" is a historical prose by the Ukrainian writer Panteleimon Kulish. The author tells about the events in Ukraine in the second half of the 18th century, enveloping them in a veil of romanticism.
The central figure of the work is a young man, Voronezh centurion Mykhailo Charnyshenko, who stands at the crossroads of life. He must choose: to stay with his beloved, or to go to the battlefield. The centurion believes that any action will ultimately turn into a fatal mistake. However, the hero would rather die than believe in the oppressive inevitability of fate.
