A group of fairies left without a home try to adjust to their new life in the forest. While they dodge external and internal dangers, the optimistic Aurora steps up to leadership, trying to organize the community and help everyone. But where do Aurora's good intentions lead?
Upon its release, The Sweet Gloom became a global bestseller and an instant horror classic, combining Kerascoet's deceptively optimistic watercolor illustrations with Fabien Wellmann's darkly nuanced narrative. This edition contains additional material, preparatory sketches and unused illustrations.
Fabien Wellmann is a French comic writer who has been nominated several times for an award at the Angoulême International Comic Festival.
Kerascoquet is the pen name of the husband and wife duo of French illustrators Marie Pompepui (b. 1978) and Sébastien Cosse (b. 1975). They met at École Estienne, where they studied graphic design. They started working together on illustrations for the press, advertising and books in 2002. During the production of the animated series "Le Petit Vampire" they met Joanne Sfar, who suggested that they and Lewis Trongheim take on the work on the drawings for the "Donjon Crépuscule" series.
In 2006, they drew the highly acclaimed comic "Miss Pas Touche" based on Hubert's script (a total of four volumes were published), and three years later in France "The Sweet Darkness" written by Fabien Wellman was published. The duo also worked with the same screenwriter on the 2011 film Journey to Satania. The three-volume Beauty comic, another collaboration with Hubert, another of the duo's trusted screenwriters, was also a success.
