Description

The seventeen stories included in the collection differ in both the style of presentation and the chronology of the events depicted. The author shows the reader a picture in the present tense, then the recent past, then the very distant future. Some of the texts in the book are connected by a plot line and, accordingly, by the images of the main characters (“Holy Saturday”, “Father’s Saturday”, “Makovie’s Beard”, “The White Horse of Archangel Michael”, “Baked Dawns”, “School Gathering”, “Capsicums”).

The language in which the characters communicate conveys the whole flavor of life and everyday life in the described pictures. Excursions into the historical past and folklore interspersed contribute to the visualization of what the writer depicts.

The author managed to convey the psychological state of the characters so skillfully that their actions seem absolutely motivated and irrevocable. The reader seems to be always next to the hero/heroes, follows their path, immerses himself in their memories or dreams, feels their emotions (joy, pain, sadness, disappointment, etc.).

Here we cannot fail to mention another classic, our contemporary Lina Kostenko: “… and every finish is, in fact, a start,” — that is, this book is in the reader’s hands, and therefore encourages him to write the next one.
