Description

My name is Marcellus. I am a giant Pacific octopus. That's what it says on a sign near my aquarium. How long do we octopuses live? Four years — 1460 days. I was brought here when I was still very young. I have at most one hundred and sixty days left in my life.

Tovi Sullivan is seventy, and her life is full of pain and loneliness. Her husband died, and her only son, Eric, went missing thirty years ago.

She gets a job as a cleaner at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. One night, Tova saves the octopus Marcellus, who, being outside the aquarium, got tangled in the wire and almost died. At first glance, Marcellus is just a resident of the ocean, and the woman has no idea that he will help her discover the secret of the mysterious night when Eric disappeared.

Charming, captivating, full of kindness and wit, Shelby Van Pelt's debut novel is a story of friendship and the trials of fate. A reminder that sometimes a careful look at the past can ultimately help open the door to a future that seemed impossible.
