Description

The events of "Heaven" unfold in 2058 in Helsinki. As a result of natural disasters and civil war, the totalitarian regime of Light has taken over the city. People hardly communicate, children are no longer being born. There is no future, the past has been forgotten. As the only consolation, Light offers the townspeople Heaven - a paid virtual space where you can see the former and fictional worlds, where everything is more beautiful and orderly than it ever was in reality. But even the most flawless illusion gives way to the thirst for real experiences. A novel about the power of nature where civilization is declining; about human relationships and fears; about the saving influence of memory and culture. The novel is melancholic, but life-affirming. Awarded the Finnish Maailman laita Prize (2016) and the European Union Prize for Literature (2019).
