Description

The book is dedicated to the history of deportations of the civilian population from Western Ukraine in 1944–1953, initiated by the Soviet authorities as a means of combating the insurgent movement. This is a story about the colossal abuse of the inhabitants of the western Ukrainian lands, about the terrible trials that befell the exiles in the places of exile. The work provides a reconstruction of the details of the institution of family hostages, the organization of extrajudicial repressions, shows the perpetrators and victims. Thanks to the memories of the victims, the reader can walk with them the entire way of the cross from arrest to rehabilitation, learn about the features of the regime's everyday life, feel their pain and indomitable desire to return to their native land. This study is a scientific and documentary proof of the pathology of the Stalinist regime, which in an effort to achieve unlimited power, to subjugate an "uncertain" region, turned incomprehensible hatred and contempt for the human personality into a component of state ideology.
