Description

“Night Traveler” is a sequel to “Eye of the World” — the first teenage novel in Ukrainian literature about the UPA, written based on real events by one of the most iconic Ukrainian writers, Halyna Pahutyak.

End of 1946. Winter. The village of Zalokot in the Carpathians, where the teenager Ilko, a UPA liaison, lives. When you have to travel alone, it’s better to do it at night, because it’s safer that way, and from ghosts and the enemy occupier you have the Eye of the World diamond, a pistol and a grenade. It’s no wonder that the boy is not even fifteen — he has long since set foot on the path of war and there is no way back. If there is no one to fight for Ukraine, children will do it — this is the main motive of the second book about the young UPA liaison, already known to the Ukrainian reader from the novel “Eye of the World.” In this school of life, in this hopeless struggle with the Moscow occupier, he does as his heart tells him, and that is why he is primarily a hero, not a victim.
