Description

Gaius Julius Caesar (100–44 BC) was an outstanding ancient Roman statesman and politician, military leader, and writer whose rule marked a decisive transition from the republican system to the empire. Caesar's military activities in Western Europe in the pre-Christian period radically changed its cultural and political space and left a noticeable mark on the lives of future generations of Europeans. "Notes on the War with the Gauls" are of particular value, because their author was a direct participant in the events described - the military leader Caesar. In between battles, he wrote down what he saw and experienced. Caesar's work, supplemented by the eighth book, written by his associate, military leader Aulus Hirtius, became a classic of historical literature. The translation of "Notes" into Ukrainian is being published for the first time.
