Historian Volodymyr Viatrovych collected several of his publications — from the early 2000s to our time — and supplemented them with a modern narrative. These are articles, columns, and interviews that deal with national identity, the Holodomor, the liberation struggle and "people of will", the Orange Revolution, and Euromaidan, materials labeled "top secret", which one day became "top secret". The author carefully researched a significant part of this story and helped to create another piece.

That is why this is a book about the past — the author's, Ukrainians', the past in general, history as history and story, collective and personal.

This book is not about rewriting history. It is about the Ukrainians' attempts to write their state's history. Free yourself from the captivity of the thoughts of the "elder brother" and achieve true independence — when you can tell your story in the first person.

For a wide range of readers, everyone who wants to form their view of Ukrainian history and rethink both collective memory and the events of the recent past.
