The play "Novecento" is constructed in the form of a monologue. The trombonist tells the story of Danny Budmann TD. Lemon Novecento, pianist of the jazz orchestra on the transatlantic liner "Virginets". He was raised by one of the members of the orchestra after Danny was abandoned as a baby on a ship by poor emigrants. The transatlantic ship, the sea and music became the boy's familiar environment. Although he has never seen anything but ocean, seas, and ports, he travels extensively in his own imagination, listening intently to the stories of the passengers on board. At the age of 32, he finally dares to go ashore, but at the last moment changes his mind and escapes to the ship again.
The small play raises important questions of life choices and the courage of small and large steps that fate requires of us. You can never leave your native home and feel like a citizen of the world. And you can travel a lot and never find peace of mind. After all, they say correctly: wherever we go, we have to take ourselves with us.
