The famous lyric poet, "rich in rhythms", author of the colorful "Satires" and philosophical "Epistles" Quintus Horace Flaccus (65–8 BC) left behind a unique poetic mosaic of life, whose colors and tones vividly echo the realities of our time. Imbued with the ideas of the freedom-loving Hellenes, the singer of the balance of spirit and mental mood is the brightest expression of all Greco-Roman culture. A sensual and virtuoso lyric poet, a sadly smiling thinker and theorist of poetry, he had a colossal influence on European, including Ukrainian, culture. "I am a man, and nothing human is alien to me," - in the words of Terence, Horace could rightly say about himself; that is why he is interesting and close to the reader of all times.
An updated, complete, extensively annotated translation of Horace's works into Ukrainian is being published for the first time.
