The Last Dream. Pedro Almodóvar

“The collection “The Last Dream” is the first authorized book of fiction and essays by Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar, whose work is characterized by eclecticism and postmodern optics. It is a kind of cinematic diary of the artist, where reality is closely intertwined with fiction, religion with mythology, and history with a fairy tale.
It contains memories, confessions, reflections and personal stories. Pedro Almodóvar frankly talks about personal traumas, the death of his mother, his attitude to religion, his close friendship with Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, his love of cinema and loneliness.
However, not all the stories are autobiographical in nature. Some plots are more reminiscent of Almodóvar’s film scripts: tragedy borders on comedy, humor with bitter irony, and death always follows love. The artist admits in the preface: if he had had enough money at one time, he would definitely have adapted these texts into films.
Full of reflections on the craft of writing and directing, reflections on Life and Death, creativity and personal relationships, the collection “The Last Dream” is like a literary variation on “Pain and Glory” by P. Almodóvar.
