Description

Hubert Haddad (b. 1947) is a French novelist, poet, essayist and critic, also of Tunisian origin, one of the most prominent contemporary French-language authors. His novels "Palestine" (2007) and "Intoxicating Poppy" (2011) are united by the motif of war and violence, although they are dedicated to different topics and countries. The main character of "Palestine" is a private of the Israeli army, who accidentally and unexpectedly finds himself on the side of the Arabs and discovers for himself that "foreigners" are painfully similar to "his own". Alam, the hero of "Opium Poppy", in the short twelve years of his life manages to visit the Taliban, cross the Middle East and Europe from one end to the other, and experience so much that a child's memory refuses to preserve this terrible and painful experience. These novels are windows to a world that seems very far from us, but it only seems so...
