Ever since its publication, the novel "Patsyky" immediately acquired the cult status of a frank literary testimony about the turbulent end of the eighties and the beginning of the nineties on the ruins of the dying "scoop". Here is everything that the media of that time shyly kept quiet and that was never heard in the halls of schools, vocational schools or technical schools: epic battles "district by district", first criminal experiences, boys and girls who, having barely stepped on the threshold of their youth, are forced learning to survive in this brutal, almost uncontrollable chaos of rapid social and cultural changes that predicted the imminent collapse of the old system. After the first publication of the novel, Anatoly Dnistrovoy was immediately dubbed the "Ukrainian Burgess" - in terms of epicness, frankness, brutal realism and the truth of life, the novel is not inferior, or even surpasses the famous "A Clockwork Orange", but at the same time, Dnistrovoy's prose is much closer to us, because it was written for us and about us as a witness of that difficult, but in its own way, romantic era, which many of us remembered for the rest of our lives.
