Pedro Paramo

"Pedro Paramo" is the only published novel by Juan Rulfo: a Mexican who changed Latin American literature. It is a story about, in the words of Gritsky Chubai, "the search for the culprit" in the phantasmagoric town of Comala, where the boundaries between the living and the dead are blurred, and the past is intertwined with the present. Rulfo's laconic, economical style captivates literally from the first sentence. The author complements the stylistic restraint with generous symbolism and insightful depictions of landscapes, rural life and traditional culture of Mexico, similar to Rulfo's own black and white photographs.

"Pedro Paramo" is included in the personal library of the most important works of world literature compiled by Jorge Luis Borges, and its influence is recognized by all Latin American masters.
