Energy aggression began immediately after Ukraine gained independence. From the ban on the export and storage of spent nuclear fuel, which threatened the collapse of nuclear power plants, to the seizure of the entire oil refining industry. Russia used all its energy resources, finances, political and criminal influence to destroy the right of Ukrainians to make any decisions in the energy sector. Therefore, in order to drive the Russians out of the market, all possible methods were used: from raiding to international courts.
Ukrainian politicians, officials, diplomats and businessmen have made many mistakes over the years. Sometimes they seemed fatal. But despite the unfavorable conditions, the country managed to repel all the energy attacks of the aggressor.
Yevhen Mochalov and Vitalii Kryzhevskyi tell how, step by step, starting in the 1990s, Ukraine managed to throw off the imperial energy yoke and completely disconnect from the Russian energy system a few hours before the start of a full-scale invasion.
