The women's almanac "The First Wreath", printed in Lviv in 1887, had a difficult and long publishing history. This publication forever entered the history of Ukrainian feminism as an unprecedented and admirable example of intellectual, spiritual, and national unity. It was this unifying idea of the publication — "In the name of our national unity" — that was proclaimed in Natalia Kobrynska's preface to this almanac. This was an extraordinary event in the conditions of statelessness of Ukraine, then divided between two empires.
Under one cover of the almanac, 17 female writers came together (11 from Galicia and 6 from the Dnieper region), who submitted a total of 49 works of various genres (poetry, prose, scientific research).
The project is implemented with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the Kyiv-Ukraine Bureau, and the Girls NGO.
