Lan once had a different name. But after the invasion of the Elantian colonialists, who killed her mother and banned the magic of her people, she wears a different one and lives a double life: by day she rummages through the city slums in search of artifacts of the past, and by night she works as a singer in a tea house.
The only thing left of the girl from her former life is a mysterious mark on her hand, which no one but Lan herself sees. Until Zen appears - a practitioner from the legendary Last Kingdom, the bearer of a forbidden power.
Zen recognizes that Lan is endowed with unusual abilities. He has never encountered anything like this, and the only place where he can hope for help is an ancient school of practitioners, hidden far among the pine forests in the misty mountains, the only one that has survived the conquest.
