From the "Letters" of the writer and public figure Pliny the Younger, stylistically perfect texts, samples of highly artistic intellectual prose, the unique, deeply humane personality of their author emerges against the background of the age: we have a vivid idea of the material and spiritual life of the educated strata of society at that time; here is the only one preserved from those times, a vivid description of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, and also, in the letters to Trajan, important evidence about the early Christians. The submitted letters, with the exception of the description of the eruption of Vesuvius, have been translated into Ukrainian for the first time.
