Description

The time of events is the fall/winter of 2022, starting with the first blackouts in the country as a result of Russian shelling. At the heart of the story is the relationship between old friends who are experiencing the psychological trauma of their schoolmate in the war in different ways.

Les, a former native of Lviv, is a teacher and literary critic who has been living in Kyiv for many years. His close friend Slavko, whom Les has been friends with since school days, was mobilized, but was wounded near Izyum and returned to Lviv for rehabilitation. Lesyk, on the other hand, has been in the rear in Kyiv since the beginning of the war, occasionally volunteering and continuing his teaching work. While escorting a wounded comrade in Lviv, he understands that Slavko has changed a lot as a result of the war. Although Slavko openly and does not condemn Les for not fighting, he feels that the old friendship is no longer possible.

The loss of a comrade becomes very painful for Les, and he feels a great pressure of guilt and fear of public condemnation for not participating in hostilities. The need to honestly understand himself pushes Les to have a frank conversation with himself on the pages of his diary.

A chain of associations leads Les to memories of his student years. Those years when they were together with Slavko, they were both naively in love with one girl - the young artist Katya, who was nicknamed "Medusa" out of sight.

By recreating the events of the beginning of the 2000s in his diary, Les finds grounds for understanding who he is and what his role in society and contribution to victory should be.
