The Late Mattia Pascal is the most famous of the novels by Nobel Prize winner Luigi Pirandello. The novel's grotesque main antihero, Mattia Pascal, lives a boring life in a provincial town. By coincidence, he is declared dead and is given a chance to start all over again. Mattia moves, takes a new name and leads an unusual lifestyle, but later finds that he is just as unbearable as before. He returns too late to the world he left behind - he has no job and his wife has remarried. Mattia Pascal's fate is to continue living as the ghost of the man he once was.
