Germany lost the First World War while the lieutenant of the 6th battalion of the Silesian Pioneers, Alois Pokora, lay unconscious in a Berlin hospital. When he regained consciousness, he realized that the old world had irretrievably disappeared, and it had been replaced by a completely new one, in which he, Alois, still had to find a place. He was always lonely and despised, forced to prove his worth all the time. But now, having four years of combat experience, in the new revolutionary reality, he will become a valuable asset, at least for the Spartacists, at least for the Freikorpsers, at least for the Poles who are building an independent state. But does Alois himself want to join anyone? Maybe his only goal is to be next to his dream Agnes?
Szepan Twardoh offers the reader a sophisticated intellectual game, invites him to a time and space where Wasserpol sounds simultaneously with German, and the main character is forced to search for himself in this mixture of languages, cultures, social restrictions and expectations.
