Description

“The Flood” is a book by Yevhen Lir in the genre of narrative nonfiction. It is a documentary-fictional journey to the Kherson steppes, based on the testimonies of people who survived the Russian occupation and the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

The plot centers on the Maister, who makes a living by repairing watches and other mechanisms. He arrives in Kherson in search of a place for a workshop. In the city, he meets a soldier with the call sign Texas, who, under enemy bullets, took people out by boat, and a volunteer Oleh, who did not have time to become a priest and took people out along the Road of Life, and after the Flood and the water, also from their flooded houses. The Maister also hears the story of Anna, who crossed the border with the enemy to find her children, torn from her arms, and eventually returned home.
