“A Little Drama” is a chamber novel set in Kyiv in the 1920s. Its main character, Marta, is a woman trying to make a choice between two opposites. It would seem that she is choosing between two men — the amateur philosopher Lev and the cynical biochemist Yurii, but in reality she has to make a decision based on her worldview. Both men embody the confrontation between the human and the mechanistic in an era when emotions, faith, and morality are declared “bourgeois relics,” and a person is transformed into “biological material.” The author never finished “The Story Without a Title.” This is a psychological work-discussion, where, after a chance meeting in Kyiv, Andrii, a Kharkiv student, obsessively searches for a stranger, gradually revealing his own personality.
