Philip K. Dick /1928–1982/ is a cult American science fiction writer, philosopher and visionary, whose creative output has had an enormous influence, and still continues to influence, the entire world of fantastic and near-fantasy literature and cinema. One of the most important themes in the work of Philip Dick, to which the writer constantly returns, is to find out how real our reality is and how real we ourselves are. And then there are bizarre parallel worlds and time loops, artificial creatures that have broken free from the power of their creators to take over the full power of the world, including their creators and their descendants, and also strange creatures and organizations that ordinary people are secretly engaged in their bizarre affairs, space travel and intergalactic wars, contacts with representatives of other civilizations with whom it is not always possible to find a common language, totalitarian governments and mega-corporations that control space and time, and again it is similar to ours, but yet an imperceptibly different reality into which the main character unexpectedly falls, who actually never aspired to all these wonders, but only wanted a calm and happy life, just like you and me...
It seems that the chest from which Philip Dicke drew his astonishing ideas and concepts was never empty, at least until 1982, when he passed away just months before the first film adaptation of his novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which made him famous. Philip Dick's creative legacy includes almost five dozen novels and over a hundred short stories.
With this complete collection of short fiction, we pay tribute to the extraordinary personality of Philip Dick and the influence that his work has had on all modern fiction and, to some extent, literature in general. Without Philip Dick, many things would be a little different than what we know them today, so let's be glad that at least in our reality there was a writer, philosopher, essayist and visionary - Philip Kindred Dick.
The second volume of the complete collection of short prose by the famous American writer, philosopher and visionary Philip Kindred Dick includes stories written in the period 1952-1954, including those known for the adaptations of the story, such as "The Adjustment Bureau" (the name of the adaptation - The Adjustment Bureau) "The Impostor ” (the title of the screen adaptation – Impostor), “The Golden Man” (the title of the screen adaptation – Next) and many other, no less ingenious, non-standard and exciting works that for many years ahead formed entire plot directions in fantastic literature and cinema.
