Description

The main purpose of this book is to be heard on the other side of the pages. So that women, who carry their silent stories with them from day to day, understand that they are not alone. So that those who want to give up, do not give up. This book brings together stories about physicality, sexuality, pain, the search for identity, motherhood, the experience of serious illness, toxic relationships, and healing. This is a consolation book, a challenge book, a step-sister book.

"What she is silent about" is a book for women, the texts for which were written by women. And this is the debut edition of the newly established publishing house Creative Women Publishing. 48 personal stories reveal topics that many are still ashamed to talk about. It is about sexuality, violence, abuse in the family, physicality and the difficult experience of motherhood, toxic relationships. The Yakaboo blog publishes an excerpt from the book, in which activist Olga Zelenyuk openly talks about her dream of becoming pregnant.

"What she is silent about" can be called a therapeutic collection that fights against toxic stereotypes. The book immediately became an event, because among its authors there are human rights activists, women with interesting stories and famous people who are worth mentioning: rapper Alyona Alyona, actress Irma Vitovska, journalist and literary critic Iryna Slavinska, writer and human rights defender Larisa Denysenko, doctor Nataliya Lelyukh , writer Anna Topilina and many others.

There are 48 different female voices in the book: the collection of texts began in March 2020, before the lockdown itself, and was finally completed before the New Year.
The book includes essays by female authors from various parts of Ukraine and the world (USA, Poland, Canada, Germany, Sweden).
Among the authors are an ornithologist, a mountaineer, a rapper, a mortar woman, a plus-size model, a scientist, and an actress.
The name of the book was changed at least three times, and Ornella Ostapenko, the publishing house's art director, managed to create the most apt chapter titles.
The idea of the book was born while scrolling through the Facebook feed: one of the co-founders and editor of the book, Slava Svitova, read a post with the words "Do you hear, sister?". So I wanted to create a book that has never been in Ukraine - a book from the pages of which women speak to other women.
