The book “Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma” by Peter Levine, who has been studying stress and trauma for 30 years, was a real discovery.
Levin proposed a method of somatic experience, based on neurophysiology, somatic psychology, and body psychotherapy. Trauma is considered as the body’s reaction to excessive exposure to traumatic factors, and the body as having the ability to heal itself. Therefore, for healing, it is necessary to “complete” traumatic reactions and release the body’s natural resources blocked by trauma.
Why “Waking the Tiger”? Because the ability of animals to recover from a dangerous situation can serve as a model for humans. It shows us the way to discovering our own innate abilities to heal. The nervous system of a traumatized person is not damaged, it seems to have frozen in a state of suspended arousal. Completing this process prevents post-traumatic reactions from becoming chronic.
The book will be of interest not only to specialists, but also to a wide range of readers.
