Description

It seems as if it all started with an ordinary wicker rocking chair. Since it appeared in the main character's house, his life has been inexorably crumbling, his family is falling apart, and at the nearby market he finds a fellow loser-recluse, also a writer, in the same wicker chair. As if all this were not enough, he introduces himself with the same name as the hero. The hero's "I" begins to fall apart, like everything around him - like the entire reality of the complex and crazy post-communist Bulgarian 1990s. But the hero does not fall apart into fragments, but into stories. He becomes their collector, a narrator, gradually assembling them into a strange puzzle that most resembles the faceted eye of a fly. "A Natural Novel" by the winner of the International Booker Prize, the world's most famous Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov, is a cheerful and mournful, ironic-nostalgic weave of plots and observations, which, perhaps, is what life itself is made of.
