Against the backdrop of a future in which floods and incessant rains have submerged much of the world, Julia Armfield offers a new reading of the story of Shakespeare's King Lear. The daughters of the famous architect-innovator Carmichael are connected by a difficult and mysterious childhood: without the warmth of a mother who has mysteriously disappeared, and with the constant abuse of a cruel father. Under the pressure of circumstances, three queer sisters try to repair their lives and relationships with each other. Ila, Irena and Agnes live in a world on the verge of death, when people sometimes seek solace in rituals, falling under the influence of sectarianism. After their father's death, the time has come when the sisters must either act separately, remembering old grievances, or unite for the sake of common salvation. But will they succeed?
