Description

The first Ukrainian edition of Colette's works includes texts from different periods of her work.
In the autobiographical essay "Sido", the writer tells about her childhood in the countryside; her mother, who knew the smallest signs and loved to tidy up the garden; her father, who was drawn to the city, but for the sake of his beloved wife, he volunteered to live on the land; about her brothers-starvigolov, whom everyone called savages.
In the story "The Wheat is Ripening", teenagers Philip and Vinka try to understand what kind of feeling is arising between them and how to cope with it. Similarly, Zhizhi from the work of the same name is afraid to open up about her true feelings even to herself. Over the decades, this short story will be a source of inspiration for numerous film adaptations and theater productions, one of which took place on Broadway in 1951 with the participation of Audrey Hepburn, whom Colette herself approved for this role.
Echoes of Colette's work are felt in the works of many contemporary writers, in particular, Anne Erno (her "Maiden" and "Women" echo "Sido"), Françoise Sagan ("Hello, Sorrow" - a variation of "The Wheat is Ripening").
