Description

Mackenzie Work’s “Raving” is a manifesto of rave as a collective resistance, a rebellious trance and ecstasy that grows from the ruins of the capitalist world. Work explores underground New York raves—as a philosopher observing the birth of community, and as a raver immersed in the pulse of body, light and rhythm. Here, rave is a ritual of disappearance and re-emergence, a place where the body dissolves into sound to find a freedom that does not exist outside the dance floor.

Combining auto-theory and auto-fiction, Work intertwines the personal and the political, transforming the experience of the body, sexuality and drug trance into a philosophy of survival. “Raving” is a space where dance becomes an act of community, and rhythm is a belief in the possibility of another future.
