FOUR GENERATIONS. THREE SISTERS. ONE DIVIDED NATION.
In 1898, Indian teenager Pirbhai is taken from his village to work on the East African Railway. Far from home, the boy commits a brutal act. The embers of that terrible day ignite a flame that will burn for four generations on four continents throughout the twentieth century.
Pirbhai’s children live in Uganda all their lives, and his three grandchildren are born and raised there. But in 1972, military dictator Idi Amin declares that the country belongs only to ethnic Ugandans. So the descendants of Indian Pirbhai are forced to leave everything they have and flee. Now the three sisters are scattered across different continents.
An unexpected letter makes each of them wonder how far they can go and who they are willing to challenge to win their place in the world.
