"Tristan and Isolde" is one of the eternal images that has influenced the entire Western culture. This plot originated from a Celtic legend, and in the Middle Ages it existed as an epic, which was spread by wandering singers. Until the so-called courtly "Romance of Tristan and Isolde" appeared in France, which inspired the creator of the novel about King Arthur, Sir Thomas Malory, and Chrétien de Troyes.
In the 19th century, various versions of the legend were collected and adapted to the modern language by the French philologist Joseph Bedier. This adaptation of his became a classic, and its Ukrainian translation was created by none other than Maksym Rylsky. This book was last published in Ukrainian more than half a century ago and has already become a real bibliographical rarity.
The publication is complemented by graphic illustrations by the modern Ukrainian artist Oleksandra Nechyporenko.
