"Conversations with intellectuals" by the writer Anatolii Dnistrovyi is the result of the author's more than a twenty-year hobby of communicating with well-known Ukrainian and foreign intellectuals, in particular philosophers, historians, writers, translators, and artists, on many topics of the transformation of Ukrainian culture, civil society and the humanitarian field of Ukraine.
Made in the genre of "interview of ideas", the book shows a full-fledged value-semantic discourse of the whole era of the restoration of Ukraine's Independence — integration into the world of Western democracies and an open society. The interviews were taken in different historical and intellectual contexts, but they can "illuminate" each other, indicating the irreversibility and increasingly rapid movement of Ukrainian society, culture, and the intellectual field towards openness, diversity, dialogicity. The conversations are a sociological slice of their time because they actualize the issues that were and are on the agenda: strengthening the subjectivity of Ukraine (culture, intellectual field, literature), overcoming the post-colonial syndrome, and more intensive integration into the world of democracy and world culture.
