In the early spring of 1919, during a street pogrom, Cossacks hacked Samson Kolechko's father and cut off his own ear. Riots in Kyiv, the city is again captured by the Bolsheviks, but they hardly control the situation. Citizens are being robbed by real and fake Red Army men, gangs of all kinds of chieftains—Zeleny, Grigoriev, Struka—run the outskirts of Kyiv time and time again... Survival is becoming more and more difficult. By a coincidence of strange circumstances — thanks to his late father's desk — Samson Kolechko is recruited into the police service. This case is completely new to him, so he immediately begins to investigate crimes - those committed by the Red Army men who have settled in his place.
