Sanatorium

"Sanatorium" is an example of a special phenomenon (and perhaps even a separate genre in literature) that can be defined as "the poet's prose". It is a semi-autobiographical story with real characters from the Wrocław literary scene of that time (and this is the mid-to-late 1960s), a story embellished with lengthy descriptions of the inner experiences of the main character Piotr G. Sobiecki. Bearing in mind Wojaczek's lifestyle, one should also expect descriptions of the alcoholic and sexual excesses of this alter ego of the poet and everything that accompanies these excesses. For those initiated into the dark legend of Rafał Wojaczek, "Sanatorium" is a canonical, thoroughly mythical, cult text.
