Rachel Chu is a Chinese-American professor of economics at New York University. Her boyfriend, Nick, is a professor of history at the same university and is from Singapore. They love each other, and Nick suggests that Rachel spend the summer vacation together in his hometown. Another great occasion is a best friend's wedding. Rachel agrees, not knowing what's in store for her. It turns out that Nick's family is very, no, insanely rich.

The girl gets into a closed community where fortunes are in the billions, and the circle of communication consists of the most influential people in Asia. These people do not like to let strangers into their lives, worrying about family money and reputation. And can turn a stranger's life into hell.
