Astrid Lindgren's "Wartime Diaries. 1939–1945" is a very personal portrayal of how dramatic world events affect us all. She was not yet a famous writer - the first book about Pippi Longstocking was published the same year the war ended, in 1945, but her curiosity and sharp critical mind prompted her to analyze events at the front and in the rear.
Without her own notes, the diaries contain many articles cut from Swedish newspapers, which she comments on. Not everyone knows that Astrid Lindgren was an anti-Nazi and fought against war and violence all her life.
The foreword to "Wartime Diaries. 1939–1945" was written by the Swedish writer Czerstin Ekman, who knew Astrid Lindgren, and Astrid's daughter, Karin Nyman, wrote the afterword.
The 17 published diaries are a unique document from an ordinary person and one of the most famous Swedes in the world.
