The monograph is the first fundamental scientific study of the ascetic activity of the artist Maria Raevskaya-Ivanova, who in 1869 opened an art and industrial school in Kharkiv - the first in Ukraine. The education system in it was founded with an orientation towards the artistic movement in European countries, caused by the problem of the rapprochement of art and industry. The founder of the school was a specialist with a European education and the first woman artist in the Russian Empire, which included Ukraine. The opening of an art and industrial type educational institution was due to the rapid development of the machine industry in the "factory" Kharkiv in the second half of the 19th century. and the formation of a modern image in the architecture of the city. Raevskaya-Ivanova played a special role in the formation of design education in Kharkiv. At the same time, the school retained the form of training and easel types, although among its graduates, representatives of this sphere constituted a small percentage. The monograph reveals for the first time the current and current features of the artistic and pedagogical system of the Raevskaya-Ivanova school, its role in the artistic life of the city. The book is intended for specialists and all those interested in design, fine and decorative arts.
